Lecture: "Development of future silk materials and their innovative applications for creating new value"

"Silk" is a natural polymer produced by silkworms, and mankind has used it as a textile material and clothing since ancient times. On the other hand, in recent years, many researchers have focused on the value of silk as a "protein" rather than just a fiber, and are seeking applications in various fields. Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology has also been a pioneer in silk research, and has published many interesting research results on silk proteins.
In this lecture, we will introduce trivia about silk, which is a familiar fiber, and explain in an easy-to-understand manner the development and utilization of next-generation silk proteins, which can be obtained by maximizing the potential of silk and further functionalizing it.
